Illusion and Reality

People like to believe that they hate Illusions, but Reality is they love their Illusions

Shawshank Redemption

Many films illustrate realities in our world that many people do not think about. In Frank Darabont’s film, “The Shawshank Redemption”, he illustrates the reality of what prison can be like. More specifically, he illustrates the reality of people getting accused for something they did not do.

Many people think that each and every prisoner in a prison deserves the punishment they received. Often times this is not true. In the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne is convicted for a crime he did not commit. He spends a long time in this prison and endures many things an innocent man should not have to go through. This really helps people to realize that innocent people are sometimes convicted.

In the film, the guards often beat the prisoners and Warden Norton made under the table deals and would not let Andy have a proper trial when the idea that he might be innocent came up. He even killed the man that had the evidence of Andy’s innocence! The magnitude of this probably does not happen in prisons nowadays but I am sure prisoners are often mistreated. The film helps people to realize the reality of this.
