Isolation

In our society today, isolation is mostly considered a bad thing. For example, when we looked at the film, “The Shawshank redemption”, Andy had to face getting put in the hole several times. The hole was a punishment used in the prison and was solitary confinement for the prisoners. They were put in a dark room and forced to be alone with their thoughts for however long their punishment was for. When people first hear the word isolation, pleasant thoughts usually do not coincide with this word. However, isolation can sometimes also be a good thing. Beng isolated allows you to think freely and a lot. This is why prisoners usually do not like it, they have to think about the crime they committed. When a person needs to do some serious thinking, isolation is not a bad thing. In the text, “On the Rainy River”. Tim O’Brien, is isolated quite often. This is effective in him making his decision. He is able to think more and better while he is isolated.
